Lynne Spears says her daughter Britney, whose public meltdown included shearing off her own hair, is "just figuring things out".
"It's sad that the whole world had to watch her make mistakes that all of us have made at one time or another," Lynne Spears is quoted as telling Us Weekly magazine in its latest issue.
"Everything is going to be really good. I can see her life picking up and it's just going to hold great things for her," Lynne Spears told the magazine.
"Britney Jean Spears is the sweetest and the most sensitive and loving of all my children," said Spears, the mother of three children with ex-husband Jamie Spears.
"She's just figuring things out."
Britney had reportedly been estranged from her family for several months, but recently re-established contact.
"She decided that she had to cut out everyone who was using her, and that included her parents," says a source of Spears told Us Weekly.
Meanwhile, Britney has mocked Lindsay Lohan's latest trip to rehab in a posting on her official website.
The singer has invited fans to choose the title of her comeback album and has given them five options.
The first title 'Omg is Like Lindsay Lohan Like Okay Like' is an obvious dig at the troubled actress, trivialising her latest trip to rehab.
The posting, titled "You'll Never See it My Way, Because You're Not Me" says "Britney is asking her most die-hard fans for some assistance in order to name her upcoming album".
The other four possible titles are 'What if the Joke is on You', 'Down boy', 'Integrity' and 'Dignity'.

Britney made her own trip to Malibu's Promises treatment centre where Lindsay is currently staying earlier this year.
The 26-year-old mother-of-two checked in following her split from Kevin Federline and a spate of wild partying culminating in her shaving her head.
Lindsay entered the centre just days after being arrested for DUI (driving under the influence) when she crashed her car into the curb in Los Angeles. Police found a "usable amount" of cocaine in her car.
