"In our ongoing effort to make great programming decisions for our members, we found movies play a unique role in their evolving binge-watching routines," Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said when announcing the findings, according to Variety.
The research was conducted by looking at the viewing habits of 86 million users for the first 10 months of the year.
One third of Netflix's back catalogue includes movies, though the research highlights the lack of big name movies in New Zealand. Many of the films listed, including the likes of Zootopia, are not available here.
New Zealand has just 440 titles to America's 1157, according to Finder.com.
Netflix recently had to defend their selection of movies, responding to remarks that the choices were mediocre by saying that one-third of their audience still watches them anyway.
The company, which launched in New Zealand last year, recently made it so users can download shows and movies to watch offline. It also plans to double the amount of original content it makes in 2017.
