Beyonce link-up thrills charity workers

Excited Barnardos workers have volunteered to fly in from around the country to staff collection stalls at Beyonce's Auckland concerts this week.

The charity has been chosen to partner with the pop star's charity campaign, #BeyGood, to collect donations of clothing at her four Vector Arena shows.

Barnardos chief executive Jeff Sanders said the announcement has been greeted with enthusiasm by staff.

"It's a real buzz. Staff in Barnardos are really committed to doing good works for children and they're excited that a global superstar like Beyonce is supporting what they do every day of their lives."

He said collection stands at the concerts had been "oversubscribed" for volunteers. "In fact some staff have chosen to fly in from around the country to be there."

Mr Sanders said he was familiar with Beyonce's music through his children. "My children who are young adults are avid fans so I've heard quite a lot about her and heard a lot of her music in my home, and it's just marvellous that she's decided to support Barnardos."

The charity was contacted by Beyonce's agents and asked to partner with the #BeyGood charity for the tour.

Fans coming to the Mrs Carter Show concerts are asked to bring along donations of any clothing, but primarily for children and young people aged 18 and under.

Donors will have a chance to win gifts including official #BeyGood T-shirts, autographed photos and concert seat upgrades.

Mr Sanders said there had already been feedback from staff that recipients would be thrilled to know the clothing had a link to the superstar.

"Young teenagers will be excited to know that it came out of that concert."

Barnardos supports families through early childhood education, parenting courses, family support, counselling, family violence programmes, residential and foster care, and the 0800 What's Up child helpline.

Beyonce's Auckland shows are at Vector Arena for four nights from tomorrow.
