Beastwars go on tour to celebrate singer's cancer going into remission

Beastwars is going on tour for the first time in more than two years this July and August.

The band announced a hiatus following the release of their third album The Death of All Things, but are reuniting for four shows.

So why now? The band is celebrating news that their singer Matt Hyde is in remission after being diagnosed with cancer in 2017.

Hyde says: "It's a really nice feeling to be healthy again. The amount of fans that reached out to me while I was ill was mind blowing. I never thought that there were so many people that our music had touched and connected with.

"While health is on my side we thought that we should play some shows again. It's crazy that getting sick is the thing that has brought us back together."

They'll be wielding a setlist full of favourites from their trilogy of albums Beastwars, Blood Becomes Fire, and The Death Of All Things, and also promise to treat fans to new music.

This is a tour which "celebrates life, good friends and huge riffs". Catch Beastwars in Wellington on July 13, Auckland on July 21, Dunedin on August 3 and Christchurch on August 4.
