In the next two panels, his shadowy-but-unmistakable — and apparently circumcised — penis is visible.
Naturally social media was immediately aroused, while Seth Meyers was quick to poke fun on Wednesday's Late Night.
"DC Comics has put out a new issue titled Batman: Damned #1 that appears to show Bruce Wayne's penis exposed," he opened. "I just have to say I'm glad his parents aren't alive to see this.
"Thank God that's not our last joke about Batman's penis," he giggled, before setting up the same gag again.
"I'm not saying it was impressive, but this was the sky tonight, he quipped, unveiling a picture of the night sky filled with summoning Batman signals.
Setting the joke up one more time, he quoted Batman himself: "Before you judge, I was fighting Mr. Freeze!"
According to Polygon, DC later decided to edit out the appendage of the digital edition of the comic, because it "didn't feel like the nudity was additive to the story".
The last time a Batman body part cause this much controversy was when George Clooney debuted a new batsuit with nipples in 1997's Batman & Robin.
