Auckland venue The Kings Arms is getting a fitting send-off

The D4 will play the last show at The Kings Arms.

Its closure is imminent but Auckland live venue The Kings Arms is getting the send-off it deserves.

Reformed garage-rock act The D4 have announced plans to play the inner-city venue's final show on February 22.

The group, known for rock n roll anthems like Get Loose and Party, had already confirmed they'd be making a comeback at Auckland City Limits on March 3.

But The D4 - front man Jimmy Christmas, fellow guitarist and singer Dion Palmer, drummer Beaver Pooley, and bassist English Jake - have a lengthy history with The Kings Arms.

They've played many shows there with bands like the Hellacopters, Dead Moon, Guitar Wolf, The Faceful, The Datsuns and The Rock and Roll Machine, and played their last show there before going on indefinite hiatus in 2006.

Their history includes one gig in which their PA caught fire.

And they're looking forward to the show.

"We have to be very clear: we're going to be very focused on sounding as good, if not better, than before," Christmas told The Herald.

Kings Arms owner Maureen Gordon died at the age of 84 last month, just months after the venue was sold for $7.4 million to developers.

Its closure had been announced before Gordon's death.
