Anne Heche launched a scathing attack on her ex-husband on a US talk show.

The 40-year-old actress – whose bitter divorce from cameraman Coley Laffoon, with who she has seven-year-old son Homer, was finalised in March – ranted on

The Late Show With David Letterman

after she was asked about her former partner.

She said: "Can you say lazy ass on TV?"

Despite admitting the comment was "terrible", Anne – who shares custody of Homer and pays Coley US$3,500 a month in child support - made another sharp remark about Coley when asked about his career.

She said: "He goes out to the mailbox and he opens up the little mailbox door and goes, 'Oh! I got a cheque from Anne! Oh! I got a cheque from Anne! Yay!'

"He is doing a lot for himself right now. I think he wants to coach soccer right about now. It's funny because you can't quite let go of the ex.

"He wants me to come and watch him run around in his little white shorts playing soccer. Honestly, I don't want to come to rehearsal and watch you run around in your tight shorts trying to pretend you know how to play soccer. I divorced you! I don't want to hang around with you Thursdays and Saturdays and maybe on Sunday."

During their divorce, Anne and Coley couldn't agree on how to split their furniture or custody of Homer.

She claimed he was only interested in "porn, poker and money" while he said she was mentally unstable.

In the end, Anne is believed to have given Coley a $515,000 lump sum payment. He also got half of their assets, including $700,000 worth of stocks.

Anne is now dating actor James Tupper, with who she has five-month-old son Atlas.
