Anger over Amanda Palmer's poem for Boston bombing suspect

Musician Amanda Palmer has been met with a flood of angry responses after writing a poem for one of the suspected Boston bombers.

Palmer posted A Poem for Dzhokhar, named after the Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, on her blog today.

Its lines included references to Tsarnaev's desperate attempts to escape authorities and eventual shootout with police.

They read: "You don't know how to mourn your dead brother" and "you don't know how precious your iphone battery time was until you're hiding in the bottom of the boat."

Palmer rose to fame as the singer for The Dresden Dolls and recently made headlines for a TED talk about her successful attempt to crowdfund an album on Kickstarter.

Twitter users responded angrily to her poem, interpreting it as an attempt to justify the actions of the accused.

One commenter on her blog said: "This isn't a poem for Dzjokhar, it's a poem for yourself because you imagine you know how he feels. This just makes you the CNN of poets, though - you didn't know this boy, but you're putting words and feelings into his mouth when he can't anymore."

Greg Gutfeld posted on Twitter: "A poem for @amandapalmer : Your poetry. Does nothing. For the family. Of a dead child. But your need for attention? Sated."

Palmer responded to the criticism with a post saying: "Ahhh, it's been a long time on since internet trolls yelled at me that I was a slut, a talentless whore and a hippy. Welcome, friends."

She went on to retweet some responses to her poem, most of them positive.
