"A biopic is not a fiction, it is not something that can or should be censored. You must do two things - one is be completely impartial and the other is to be as truthful as you can possibly be."
The 'Anti-Social' filmmaker's comments come after Amy's father Mitch Winehouse revealed he and his family have withdrawn support for the biopic, which was directed by Asif Kapadia, claiming it contains "basic untruths".
He said recently: "They called me an absent father. Everyone knows I was with Amy all the time. It's not even credible.
"They've painted a picture of Amy over the last three years of her life and excluded Reg too.
"Only through extreme pressure have they put a few photographs of Amy and Reg in right at the end.
"Reg spent a lot of time with them talking about their relationship and everything else.
"You never hear his voice in the film. They are Amy's biographers, it's their duty to really portray her in an accurate way.
"Not to have Reg in the film is ridiculous ... We were misled really, we were told it was going to be this great film and it isn't like that at all."
