Amber Heard's legal team issued an apology and retraction over unapproved statement

Amber Heard's legal team has had to issue both an apology and a retraction after they released a statement without Heard's approval.

Heard and Depp have reached an out of court settlement of a reported $9.6 million, all of which Heard has donated to charity.

But after the settlement was reached, Heard's lawyers, Samantha F. Spector and Joseph Koenig released a statement saying Heard had been "vindicated in the Court of Public Opinion".

However, Heard didn't know about it or approve it and the lawyers had to retract it several hours later.

In a statement, Spector said their previous statement was "untrue" and "we retract it, without qualification.

"My assertion that Amber Heard has been vindicated in the court of public opinion is not true. We regret the error and apologise to Johnny Depp."

After being locked in an increasingly ugly separation in which Heard accused Depp of abusing her, the pair released a joint statement via TMZ on Tuesday.

"Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love," it read.

"Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity. There will be no further public statements about this matter."
