TimeOut is extremely excited to announce the line-up of bands and musicians playing at next year's Auckland Arts Festival.
As expected, the festival has curated an eclectic and genre-spanning menagerie of artists that encompass everything from alt-rock to emo to electronica to covers.
Leading the pack is alt-rock darlings DeathCab for Cutie, who play their first show here since 2014.
The band's wistful sentiment and grungy indie pop sound saw them become instant favourites with the release of their debut record Something About Airplanes back in 1998. Since, they've released eight albums, including their latest effort Thank You for Today, which came out earlier this year.
Fans of experiential electronica are catered to with the announcement of Four Tet on the bill. The British DJ and producer has long crafted abstractly melodic beats that push boundaries yet remain highly accessible.
This is one of our festival picks and is not to be missed. He'll be playing the Town Hall on Wednesday, March 13.
The sublime and dreamy indie-pop duo Beach House will also be wafting into town fresh off the success of their new album, 7.
Their swirling, lush, psychedelic pop can't help but put a smile on your face. The duo will play the Town Hall on Monday, March 11.
The Arts Fest's famous Spiegeltent will be the perfect setting to see mysterious and collective Rhye.
The seductive and slinky rhythms, deeply rich basslines and producer/vocalist Michael Milosh's trademark falsetto ensures this will be a night of sublime and magical mood music. They'll be playing Tuesday, March 12.
For something a bit different look no further than Camille O'Sullivan's new show Cave. This can be considered a love letter of sorts, as the popular Irish musician and vocalist will be performing the songs of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. But this will be no mere covers set, as the award-winning O'Sullivan is celebrated for her stunning, transformative interpretations.
Hey, she's one of Yoko Ono's favourite performers so you know you're in for something out of the ordinary. She'll be playing Wednesday, March 13 in the Spiegeltent.
And in a case of saving the best for last, American singer-songwriter Neko Case will also be performing. Case is celebrated for her sparse, dark, sophisticated alt-country songs that swing from bittersweet to beautifully sad with a voice that hits you right in the feels.
She'll be performing hits as well as songs from her brilliant new album Hell-On in the Spiegeltent on Monday, March 18.
