Album Review: Karlmarx, The Karlmarx Project

Conceived as an instrumental soundtrack for a sci-fi movie that was never made, this album by the intrepid duo of trumpeter and musical mastermind Isaac Aesili (Open Souls, Eru Dangerspiel) and his producer and sound engineer brother Mark McNeill sure is a journey into the far reaches of space and sound. But though it has everything from Aesili's trademark future soul sound through to obscure electronica and menacing industrial interludes, there is an overwhelming smoothness to it with the space lounge lope of Wakatipu, the glowing and glistening bop of Anti Gravity, and the regal trumpet-driven serenade of Higgs. Now all that's needed is a film to go with it.
