Beat-making rogue Flying Lotus follows up his brain-rattling previous album, Cosmogramma, with a more whimsical, yet no less challenging album.
In fact, the Los Angeles producer - real name Steven Ellison, who is also part of the Coltrane jazz family - recorded the album as a "collage of mystical states,
dreams, sleep and lullabies".
So while not as dark and nerve-shattering as Cosmogramma it's still an intriguing experimental mix of everything from jazz and psychedelia to hip-hop and short, sharp outbreaks of drum 'n' bass.
And when it's all put together with the sort of wild ambition Flying Lotus possesses, he creates something outrageously unique.
Like the beat freak whimsy of See Thru To U with Erykah Badu and the weird and warped dance-floor groove of The Nightcaller, to the lilting jazz noodlings of Only If You Wanna, which gives way to the frenetic thuds and eeriness of Electric Candyman, featuring Radiohead's Thom Yorke - who, oddly enough, sounds the most normal he's ever sounded.
