Album Review: Annabel Fay, Show Me the Right Way

The local songbird does a decent Dusty on the final track, her cover of Springfield's torchpop classic Spooky. But despite Fay penning the bulk of the songs on this, her sophomore album, it still plays like a collection of covers selected for their easy-listening potential. True, she has added some variety by employing an occasional gritty hip-hop bassline (as on the passable single and title track), while the ballad Jessica comes with a heartfelt lyric, and Love is a Bitch comes with a pleasantly punchy groove. Otherwise, though, this is essentially a selection of interchangeable and forgettable pop-soul of little personality.
