"When I wrote it I knew this would be the first thing everyone heard from me."
The Grammy Award-winning singer was terrified no-one would like the 30-second teaser of her new single, which was released over the weekend ahead of the official release.
Adele also revealed she was keen to challenge the public's expectations with her new album 25, which is set for release on November 20, after spending four-years away from the music industry.
Reflecting on her absence from the limelight, she told Nick Grimshaw: "I want to surprise people. I don't want to say something for the sake of it. We've been sitting on it. There's been five people doing 300 people's jobs."
