Actress Shay Mitchell shuts down troll over pregnant bikini photo

Canadian actress Shay Mitchell has hit back at a social media user who asked a "ridiculous" question in the most epic way.

The 32-year-old Pretty Little Liars star recently told fans she was heavily pregnant with her first child with boyfriend of two years, television host, Matte Babel.

Mitchell announced her pregnancy news with a topless photo of her baby bump on Instagram last month, which received more than 4 million likes, reports new.com.au.

The couple — who prefer to maintain privacy around their relationship — also appeared together in a pregnancy announcement video, posted to YouTube, last Friday.

Since then, the actress, who is six-months into her pregnancy, has posted a series of bikini-clad photos showing off her growing tummy, while on holiday with friends in Italy.

The star has received millions of likes and comments of support from her fans around the world, congratulating her on the news.

Many fans claimed the news took them by surprise as they "didn't even know she had a boyfriend".

But not everyone was as enthusiastic about Mitchell's news, with some asking who her "baby daddy" was, and others even pointing to the fact that she isn't married.

"Who is his father? I do not understand," one person wrote on Instagram.

This drew widespread criticism, with people claiming some commenters as "very bold and feel very untitled about other's people lives".

On Thursday, Mitchell posted a photo of her and her friend and DJ, Alex Merrell, posing on a yacht in bikinis and sunglasses, captioning the pic with: "This is my new sucking in …#summerbod2019"

One comment in particular prompted a response from Mitchell herself, after a fan was stumped by her pregnancy news.

Mitchell was compelled to clap back at the archaic question, responding in the most perfect way: "Not married, can you believe it still happened?!!"

The woman's comment sparked more than 500 responses from people labelling the question as "ridiculous".

One woman wrote: "Wait … I'm not married and I have a kid … it's a miracle."

This forced the original user to double down, saying: "It's pathetic, not a miracle."

According to later comments, the user was a Muslim girl who claimed that culturally, women had to be married before they could fall pregnant.

Despite the mixed reaction to her baby news, Mitchell's partner posted a message of support to his girlfriend, praising her "strength, vulnerability and grace" throughout the pregnancy.
