Yet another 90s favourite is getting a big-screen reboot, and will undoubtedly draw forth cries of childhoods being ruined.
Nearly a year after it was promoted at Comic-Con, the long gestating Goosebumps adaptation has finally shown off its first trailer.
Instead of taking just one story from the franchise, the movie sees Jack Black star as the series' author R.L. Stine. When a new neighbour moves in next door and falls for his daughter, Stine's books become "unlocked", releasing all his monster creations on the world.
"The Abominable Snowman just crawled out of a book, that doesn't just happen!"
Stine then teams up with his neighbour Zach (Dylan Minette, Prisoners), daughter Hannah (Odeya Rush, The Giver) and Zach's mother (Oscar nominee Amy Ryan) to defeat his creations, using the knowledge from the books to exploit their weaknesses. Monsters featured include the Invisible Boy, werewolves, giant spiders and killer gnomes.
Slappy the Dummy, a recurring villain in the books, will be the main villain and is seen briefly in the trailer.
Rob Letterman directs, having previously directed Black in Shark Tale and Gulliver's Travels.
Goosebumps opens in New Zealand December 3.
