A New Zealand reporter covering the Chris Cairns trial in London was arrested for filming in a prohibited area overnight.

3 News' Tova O'Brien was arrested for using a GoPro camera within the precinct of Southwark Crown Court, a MediaWorks spokeswoman said today.

There are two signs at the entrance to the court banning the use of cameras past a certain point.

The spokeswoman said O'Brien was given a caution before resuming reporting on the trial.

"Our coverage of the Chris Cairns trial has not been affected," she said.

Cairns is standing trial on charges of perjury and perverting the course of justice.

Three former teammates - Lou Vincent, Brendon McCullum, and Shane Bond - have already been called as Crown witnesses.
