1. Place flour and salt in a bowl, then add the ½ cup of water and mix by hand until the dough is the texture of chewing gum, adding more water in small amounts to mix to the right consistency.
2. Form the mixture into ping-pong- sized balls and roll in flour. Use a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface to roll each portion into a thin circle. Dust with more flour and leave in a pile.
3. Heat a hot plate or small skillet frying pan and cook one piece of chapati bread at a time for a few minutes until browned, then turn over and cook on the other side (the bread will bubble and then puff up).
4. Pile the cooked bread up on a plate while completing rolling and cooking the remaining chapati.
