Very adaptable, this basic butter cake mix is handy to have in your repertoire. Simply add vanilla extract for vanilla cake, cocoa to make chocolate cake, coffee to make coffee cake — or both to make mocha. As we have done here, it's handy for muffins too. We have decorated ours with slivered almonds.
Take this batter up a notch to make an impressive layer cake, family friendly banana blueberry puddings and stonefruit pudding cake.
