Matua Valley Estate Hawke's Bay Syrah/Viognier 2010 RRP $28.99
Viognier is a wine in its own right here these days, for better or–inmostcases– worse. However, this wine shows why viognier is such a lovely grape. It adds a lovely lift to the already ripe and fruity syrah, adding a floral touch to the peppery, brambly nose and some finesse on the palate. A lovely wine and one that floats across the palate like a hot air balloon on a crisp morning.

Dunnolly Parish Family Estate Chardonnay 2011 RRP $22
A beautifully elegant, almost feminine, wine from Waipara, lightly oaked and with beautiful texture. You can almost feel it caressing your tongue as it passes over, leaving lingering traces of ripe peach, guava and cream. Delicious wine for anytime drinking, and it will also stand up to food very well indeed.
