Two Tails Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - 2013
From Sauvignon specialist Fairbourne Estate, under the critically scrutinised care
of owners and makers, Sarah Inkersell and Russell Hooper, this is their less expensive Sauvignon. But this wine carries all the flavour, expression of place and expertise afforded their top tier Fairborne ($35). Two Tails is less complex, an easy quaffer but bristling with flavour and a lovely dry finish with elegant minerality. A Sauvignon for those looking for a Sauvignon with a difference, try with seafood.

Palliser Estate Martinborough Pinot Gris -2012
Tucked away (as they like to say at Palliser Estate) in the south-east corner of the North Island and making consistently fine wines now for 25 years, with chief winemaker Allan Johnson celebrating his twenty-third vintage, you'll find genuine value for money Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and a charming Methode Traditionelle along with this sprightly Pinot Gris. It's medium style with an embracing freshness and typical pear, lychee and spice flavours.

Domain Road Vineyard Pinot Noir - 2011
Bannockburn in Central Otago is well regarded as one of the premium locations for growing sumptuous Pinots. In a sheltered valley here is where Domain Road is found, hot summers and cool dry autumns deliver grapes of subtle complexity that relish the chance to prove their reputation. It's all here, in the bottle. Brooding dark fruit, leather, chocolate and spice and medium bodied so it won't overpower those delectable duck and venison dishes.
