Auckland's Viaduct Harbour will become an illuminated wonderland from 11 to 13 May with the magic of Bright Nights. Award-winning light artist Angus Muir has created a visual experience to brighten up Auckland's waterfront with a trail that will weave its way through the Viaduct's hospitality precinct, starting outside the New Zealand Maritime Museum, and finishing at Waitemata Plaza. Clean seas and sustainability is at the heart of the festival's theme and Muir's goal for his light art experience is to interact with the water itself. "The opportunity to use Viaduct Harbour as a canvas to launch a full-scale lighting festival for everyone to enjoy is pretty much a dream come true," he says. Enlisting the help of local artists, the festival will showcase a variety of cutting-edge visual and audio technology. And while your eyes and ears are dazzled there will be much to tempt tastebuds too, with special offerings from the likes of visiting purveyors Karma Coffee and "glow-in-the-dark" gelato by Lalele Organic. Free entry from 6pm until late each night. For more information, visit brightnights.co.nz.
