Leilani the Model
Leilani is a very tall and slim 28 year old model and radio reporter. Her days are filled with interviewing, reporting and reading news bulletins on the radio, and modelling work. Radio work involves lots of coffees and early starts. She often makes breakfast to take to work, but lunch and dinner are often bought. Is her diet typical of other models? She’s not sure, but knows she has a big appetite.
6.30am Make breakfast at work after I've read my first bulletin. Two pieces of mixed grain toast with vegemite, and a black coffee.
7-11am Grazing/morning tea: I snack throughout my entire radio shift. Bowl of cottage cheese with raspberries, banana, mandarin, mix of nuts, apple and pear.
1pm I go straight from the radio station to a modelling gig. Tonight I'mwalking the catwalk at the AUT Rookie show. The organisers have ordered in pizza for the models as we wait for our dress rehearsal. I have a large cappuccino and two pieces of pizza.
6pm I've had my hair and makeup done and don't have much time to eat before the show starts and we have to get into our first outfits. There are catered sandwiches and sushi available. I have a few pieces of salmon sushi and a small sandwich.
9.30pm I should be in bed, but I'mstarving after the show and can't resist going out with friends to my favourite dumpling restaurant. The late night totally screws me up the next day but it seems like a good idea at the time. Have a plateful (about 10-12) of fried and steamed pork dumplings, beans, tofu and a herbal tea.
Nadia Lim’s quick nutritional fix
You’re lucky you’re tall as a lot of people would put on weight with the amount of high-fat takeaways you eat — if faced with pizza, go for thin-crust (instead of thick-crust) as it has significantly less refined carbohydrate, fat and calories. Dumplings can be high fat too, especially the fried ones. Vegemite is high in salt and not very filling; alternate your toast topping with something more nutritious like avocado or hummus and top with vegetables (e.g tomato or cucumber) to get some veges in your day. Cottage cheese is low-fat and high in calcium and, along with berries, fruit and nuts, is very nutritious.
