Chris the dentist
Chris is a clinical dental technician and managing director of DentureTech. He works face to face with patients and does some management work. His wifemakes him a packed lunch most days except Mondays when he has a lunch meeting and Fridays when he goes home for lunch. Would he describe his diet as typical of others in his profession? "Probably not, I try and eat as healthily as possible. I consciously think about what I eat and drink as my health and fitness are important to me. In this profession, each time we order supplies a bar of chocolate comes with the order. Needless to say, we have a lot of chocolate hanging around here, but the entire lab and technical staff take care of that. I do crossfit 2-3 times a week and road cycling at the weekend."
7.00am Espresso, cereal, toast, yoghurt and fruit tea I try to up the protein as I won't have a snack at morning tea time.
10.00am Coffee with milk, no sugar. I have a lovely staff member who makes and brings me my coffee at 10am and 3pm each day.
Midday Two cold meat and salad sandwiches, fruit, cup of tea and cake or biscuits or muffin. This all gets eaten in a bit of a rush.
3.00pm Coffee with milk, no sugar
7.00pm Chicken and vegetable stirfry. No potatoes or rice.
8.30pm I sometimes like to have some ice-cream when I am relaxing. I normally have 2 scoops and give 1/2 a scoop to my boxer dog, Aston.
Nadia Lim’s nutrition quick fix
A one-day snapshot of your diet appears satisfactory. I’m not sure how many biscuits or muffins you are having at lunchtime, but if it’s only one a day that’s fine. And hopefully ice-cream is only once or twice a week too. Good to hear you’re not tempted by the chocolate, but sounds like your suppliers are doing a good job of keeping you in business! Eating a wide variety of foods is important — it gives you a broad range of nutrients and keeps up interest. For example, some days you could change your bread at lunch for potato, kumara, rice, noodles, quinoa or bulghur wheat instead.
