An Auckland police chase covering about 60km has resulted in the recovery of a large haul of stolen goods, including medals.

Rodney police spotted a stolen Toyota Hilux in the early hours of Monday morning.

A police spokeswoman said the Hilux was spotted speeding on the motorway near Orewa about 3.30am and a pursuit began.

"It went through the Dome Valley, where the Eagle took over."

The Eagle helicopter followed the stolen car all the way to Mangawhai, where Wellsford officers spiked the tyres.

The driver abandoned the Hilux and tried to flee but was quickly captured as the Eagle was able to direct staff.

The 27-year-old was before the courts in relation to 15 burglary charges.

"Police can not rule out the possibility of more charges."

Police say electronics as well as a large amount of stolen jewellery had been recovered, including "irreplaceable sentimental pieces" which are in the process of being returned to the victims.

A number of methampetamine pipes were also found.
