An aggravated robbery, where a gun was used, at a Hamilton dairy has sparked an Armed Offenders' Squad call-out this evening.

Police were called after two men threatened a worker with a firearm at a store on Mitcham Ave, in Forest Lake, about 3.05pm and stole cigarettes before fleeing in a car, a police spokeswoman said.

Information provided by members of the public helped police find the vehicle used by the alleged offenders at Maori Point Rd in Whatawhata.

About 5pm the AOS helped police search an address on the street.

One man was arrested.

The search was carried out without incident and the AOS left the scene about 5:45pm.

Police remain at the address and are continuing to make enquiries, the spokeswoman said.

The dairy worker was uninjured but shaken by the ordeal and is being supported by police.
