A 39-year-old Bay of Plenty woman has been charged with the murder of her partner, who died after being stabbed yesterday.
The woman appeared in Whakatane District Court this morning and was remanded in custody to appear again tomorrow.
The court suppressed the names of the accused and victim on an interim basis.
Early yesterday, police were called to a domestic incident in Matahi Valley, near Waimana, 27km southeast of Whakatane, after reports a 33-year-old man had been stabbed.
He was taken to Whakatane Hospital in a critical condition and was transferred to Tauranga Hospital in the afternoon. He died about 10pm, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen said.
"We have a team of investigators and scientists completing a scene examination and speaking to witnesses from the remote location in Matahi and this investigation is set to continue for the next two days," Mr Standen said.
Police were working closely with the man's family and other local residents in the investigation.
