Prison officers face suspension if they continue their low-level industrial action, says State Services Minister Trevor Mallard. He said the action was having "a corrosive effect" and could compromise the safety and wellbeing of prisoners and prison staff.
About 2200 prison officers began industrial action this month after the department refused to grant a 6 per cent pay rise. Instead it offered a 2 per cent rise with another 1 per cent next year. The industrial action involves a refusal to complete certain paperwork.
