Immediate work is underway to replace dangerous electrical cables that have been fitted in multiple Auckland buildings.
Worksafe has confirmed seven buildings, mainly businesses, have been affected, in having the faulty cable put in.
A warning was issued to all electrical workers nation-wide yesterday to be on alert about theparticular TPS cable.
Tests carried out on the cable showed that its insulation is likely to become brittle and may fracture within just a few years of being installed, resulting in an increased fire and shock risk.
Masters Electricians has named the company responsible - Lyon Electrical Limited - for importing the faulty cable in July last year, and then both selling, and in some cases fitting, it in several buildings.
NZH Focus understands that the faulty cable has been installed as high up as 16 floors of the 28-storey Park Residences building on Albert Street.
Naylor Love Construction declined to be interviewed but confirmed in a statement that immediate work was underway to replace all electrical cables in the Park Residences.
It's also inspected three other Auckland buildings that Lyon Electrical worked on, finding one of them will also need to replace of its cables.
While there's no immediate risk from the cable - Worksafe is urging anyone who has had work done by Lyon Electrical after July 1st, 2016 to get in touch.
