The 50g bars and 250g blocks will be available from May 1, but fans were able to sample the product in Auckland today with the horse-drawn cart making its way up Queen Street to Aotea Square at 11am - attracting several hundred fans.
The chocolate flavour as well as the horse and cart are a nod to the company's history Currie said.
"We started making the original toffee back in the 1930s and our company founder James Henry Whittaker used to sell chocolate by horse and cart in his Christchurch home in Addington," she said.
"That was way back in the day so we took that inspiration to make the flavour and the cart."
Currie said the company was excited about the opportunity to engage in a unique way with some of its fans to launch the new product, saying it wasn't every day a horse and cart were seen in Auckland.
The launch follows several other flavour collaborations with Kiwi favourites, including Jelly Tip and L&P.
Whittaker's was established 120 years ago and produces its chocolate entirely in New Zealand. The company now exports to Australia, Canada and seven countries in Asia.
The Porirua-based chocolatier prides itself on manufacturing all of its products in New Zealand.
