Facebook back online after website goes down for hours

Facebook is back online after thousands of users reported issues with the social media website.

According to the outage-tracking site Downdetector, users worldwide have been experiencing problems accessing Facebook since about 9.30am, with hundreds in New Zealand reporting issues.

The problem has since been resolved, with reports on Downdetector falling about 1pm.

Some users were receiving a message saying “account temporarily unavailable” when trying to access the social media site.

Facebook was down for several hours from about 9.30am.

“Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes,” the message said.

Meta’s status page said it was seeing “high disruptions” to Facebook Ads Manager, with other services not showing any issues.

The issue with Facebook Ads Manager has since been “resolved”, according to Meta’s status page.

The Herald has approached Meta for comment.
