The owners of small companies are being urged to think of creative ways to use skilled tertiary students to improve their businesses or complete projects that have been shelved because of lack of staff.
Student Job Search (SJS) has divided its students into two groups - the Summer Squad, consisting of
students looking for the traditional short-term work such as labouring, factory or office work, and Skill Seekers.
It is the Skill Seekers that SJS hopes small businesses will put to good use, hiring skilled students to undertake tasks that may have been shelved or delayed.
Student Job Search acts as a personnel consultancy, matching student skills with the job specifications, but the service is free.
With exams over, students are looking for long-term work over the summer with businesses that will give them relevant work experience.
