What makes some companies grow at 25 per cent a year and others wither and die?
Ten people who took part in a pilot workshop at Albany on Wednesday now have a better idea.
The workshop, run by consultancy firm Ignition Partner, offered advice on how to incorporate innovation
in business growth.
It covered such issues as forming alliances, attracting capital and managing growth and people, and attracted people from small firms up to Crown research institutes.
John Cunningham, an advisory board member of Technology New Zealand and a non-executive director of venture capital firm Caltech Capital, set up Ignition Partner in May with former Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu partner Chad Wilkie.
The consultancy advises small companies wanting to get a lot bigger on technology strategy, intellectual property, structure, capital planning and Government assistance.
Cunningham says technology, development and innovation are engines of growth.
He and Wilkie each own 40 per cent of Ignition and Deloitte owns the rest, making its networks available to clients.
