The Auckland University Business School is developing a research project to help small and medium-sized enterprises to compete internationally.
"Many small enterprises need to expand their businesses into global markets in order to grow and survive," said management and employment relations senior lecturer Barbara Simpson, "but they struggle to meet
the demands of the global market."

The new PhD research project will look at developing a deeper understanding of the options available to them. Guidelines and success scenarios will also be developed as a blueprint for small businesses in their business plans.
An Enterprise Scholarship will provide cash for PhD research to the value of $25,000 a year for three years.
The scholarship will be jointly paid for by Microsoft New Zealand and Government-funding agency the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology.
