Running a home business can be a struggle, but less than 1 per cent of owners would rather work for someone else, an online survey has found.
The survey, by Home Business New Zealand, found 73 per cent would not change working from home, though just 26 per cent
enjoy it most of the time.
The poll also produced a picture of the make-up of small-business owners.
It found that 62 per cent are male. Thirty per cent are aged between 46 and 55, 29 per cent are between 36 and 45 and just 3 per cent are under 25.
Asked how well they were doing financially, 15 per cent said they were very happy and 57 per cent said they were doing okay. Twenty-eight per cent said they were battling.
Business owners were asked to name their most important issue at election time.
The poll found 37.93 per cent wanted greater tax incentives, 20.69 per cent wanted easier, cheaper compliance and 13.79 per cent wanted more funding sources.
