Chamber of Commerce has 7000 moans

Auckland Chamber of Commerce member businesses have sent 7000 postcards to Labour Minister Margaret Wilson complaining about compliance costs.

But, according to Wilson's staff who have sorted through all 7000, very few of the cards mention workplace regulation and none has mentioned occupational safety and health laws.

The cards, which carry one of three pre-printed messages, have been supplied by the chamber to its members - including one surprised and angry union.

The cards are "freepost" but carry no identifying freepost number. So each card is costing Wilson's office 80c in postage, plus penalty, staff say.

By matching signatures, Wilson's staff reckon the 7000 cards have come from 5000 different businesses. One business sent 11 cards - at 80c a card.
