A "socially responsible" business organisation with members including lemonade entrepreneur Chris Morrison and cereal king Dick Hubbard held an official launch in Auckland last night.
The Sustainable Business Network promised more help for New Zealand businesses wanting to do the right thing, whether it was introducing triple bottom line
accounting (financial, social and environmental) or obtaining energy-efficient lightbulbs.
Based in Ponsonby - above the Ecostore - it plans to add offices in the Bay of Plenty, Christchurch, the Waikato and Wellington.
The not-for-profit organisation is chaired by Morrison, managing director of Phoenix Organics - and a man who always refuses plastic bags at supermarkets.
The Sustainable Business Network resulted from the merger last year of Hubbard's organisation, New Zealand Businesses for Social Responsibility, and environmental business networks.
It is distinct from the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development, claiming to serve as more of an "on the ground" aid to small and medium-sized businesses.
