Tauranga-based business Avocado Oil New Zealand says its latest British distribution deal points to the enormous potential for exports of its product.
The small company, established 2 1/2 years ago, said its gourmet cold-pressed avocado oil, named The Grove, would now be sold in 250 Safeway supermarkets across Britain.
In a deal established last November, the company's oil is also sold in 200 outlets of Britain's largest supermarket chain, Tesco.
About 25,000 bottles of The Grove, worth nearly $325,000, would shortly arrive in Britain for sale in the supermarkets.
Avocado Oil NZ spokeswoman Elizabeth Carter said the deal showed the enormous international potential for the low-cholesterol oil.
The company also sells the Heart Foundation-approved oil in Australia, the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.
