Half of the latest round of Government enterprise awards have gone to Auckland companies.
Economic Development Minister Jim Anderton said when announcing the awards this week: "This is excellent for Auckland and shows that local business is strong and innovative.
"With the current uncertain economic situation we need to celebrate our successes and new business ideas."
The ninth round of Industry New Zealand Enterprise Awards has 35 awards totalling $308,601.
Mr Anderton will visit De'Amalfi Survival in Auckland today. The company recently won a second Industry New Zealand enterprise award of $20,000 and now has exports to the US, Russia, Holland, Germany, Australia and Spain.
The grants have helped the company to develop export markets for a high-tech safety helmet.
Mr Anderton will also visit Eager Beaver, a toy company which received a grant from Industry NZ of $2700 in round two of the scheme.
The awards take the number of recipients of grants to 271 since the scheme began last September.
Entrepreneurs or small- to medium-sized business owners can receive a maximum of $20,000 from an Industry New Zealand Enterprise Award, which can be used to fund up to 50 per cent of the cost of a project.
