Stumping up taxpayer money to help meet SkyCity's cost over-runs on the convention centre is now the Government's "least preferred" option.
During Parliament question time, Labour leader Andrew Little asked about a clause in the Government's deal with SkyCity that stated either party may pay the other cash if construction
costs changed.
Speaking at the announcement of SkyCity's half-term profit result, CEO Nigel Morrison said the casino operator was open to contributing more money to funding the centre.
"I have invested five years of my life into this thing and it would be a shame if that didn't transform into something physical for the company," said Mr Morrison.
He rejected Prime Minister John Key's previous reference to a cheaper centre being a potential eyesore.
