Programme director Leon Wratt said The Edge TV would be an extension of The Edge's radio programmes.
"The Edge TV will play the hottest local and international music videos, screen specialist music and pop culture shows, and broadcast original video content filmed with our Edge radio hosts in our new onsite custom-built studio," he said.
Edge radio hosts Jay-Jay Feeney, Mike Puru, Dom Harvey, Guy Williams, Sharyn Casey, Clint Roberts will appear on The Edge TV.
Full time dedicated free-to-air music TV stations have traditionally had a tough time lasting the distance in New Zealand, with Max TV lasting from 1993-1997 and Alt TV from 2006-2009. New Zealand's own MTV channel lasted one year in 1997.
Four began as music channel C4 in 2003, but was rebranded to a more traditional TV station in 2011. It is still available to view on Freeview until the switchover later this month.
Sky TV has several dedicated music channels for subscribers, including Juice, J2 and MTV.
The Edge TV can be seen on Freeview channel 11 and SKY channel 114.
