Work has started on a replacement New World supermarket in Papakura.
Tony Catton, Foodstuffs North Island acting property development general manager, said the original New World opened in 1982 so the time had come for a new store.
The new store is on the corner of East Street and Wood Street.
The 3000sq m store with 158 car parks is being built across the road from the existing store.
