Tax cuts wanted to lure expats home

National Party leader Don Brash believes tax cuts will bring skilled New Zealanders home.

A recent OECD report shows almost a quarter of tertiary educated New Zealanders are now living overseas.

The Government is looking at a strategy to encourage expats to return to fill gaps in the labour market.

Dr Brash doubts family ties and green grass will be enough to lure people home.

He says the tax burden needs to be eased so that hardworking New Zealanders want to stay and expatriates want to return.
