P contaminated house sells for $1.1 million

A house in Auckland with no walls and high levels of lead possibly from P contamination has sold for over $1 million.

The Herne Bay property, located on Kelmarna Ave, has three bedrooms and one bathroom is one half of a duplex, with the other dwelling owned by Housing New Zealand.

It sold at auction today for $1.136 million.

The house was tested in December for methamphetamine contamination, and it was stripped down to the framing as a result.

Testing showed there was no methamphetamine but a Forensic and Industrial Science report said twice the recommended level of lead was detected.

Real estate agency Unlimited Potential marketed the property as a "blank canvas" and a "huge opportunity".
