Nokia's retro 8110 Matrix phone is back.

The firm revealed an updated version of its curved mobile phone first seen in 1996 and made famous by The Matrix at Mobile World Congress.

The phone, which was a high-end device with a price tag of more than $1000, had cool features such as a monochrome graphic LCD and a slide-out mechanism that made it the most sought-after phone in the late 1990s.

The phone may not have any features your current smartphone has but it does sport a 25-day battery life, Nokia's famous snake game and provides an empowering feeling when you answer your phone by sliding the keyboard cover out.

The new version of the device, which Nokia says was "inspired" by the original, is a dumbphone, which has a 2.4-inch QVGA curved display, 4G connectivity, a low-end Qualcomm 205 chip, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage (and a microSD card slot), a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 1,500mAh battery.

The good news is the phone can also handle a selection of apps including Facebook, Mail for Exchange and Snake.

The phone is available in black or yellow and will be available globally from May.

WHAT FEATURES DOES THE NOKIA 8110 HAVE?

- The slider handset now supports VoLTE calls and 4G connectivity

- It runs on Smart Feature OS, and is powered by the Qualcomm 205 dual core processor, 4GB storage, 512MB LPDDR3 RAM and 1500mAh battery

- It has a 2.4-inch QVGA curved display and comes with a 2MP rear camera.

- The feature phone will be available from May.

- It will cost EUR 79, or NZD$133.

- Like the original, curved to fit the shape of the face and has a snap cover that is used to unlock the phone or answer calls.

- Instead of being black and white, the screen is now colour and it has a 25-day battery life.
