Golf: Scholarship win for Dury

Claire Dury is to leave Manawatu in January to take up a golf scholarship in the United States.

The 19-year-old has secured a two-year scholarship to the University of California (Berkeley) in the Bay area of San Francisco. She has completed 1 1/2 years of her psychology degree at Massey University and can finish it at Berkeley. The highly-rated Berkeley play division-one college golf. They made the national collegiate nationals last year.

"I had always wanted to match myself against the best players overseas, against really tough competition, " Dury said.

The New Zealand No 1 said she would still be available to represent New Zealand.
