ASB bank has promoted its technology boss to head up the bank's retail arm bringing technology and retail under one person.

Russell Jones will take on the role of executive general manager retail banking from February replacing Ian Park who is leaving the company after 30 years with the bank.

Jones has been with the ASB since 2008 and is currently executive general manager of technology and innovation.

The appointment will bring responsibility for the bank's retail and digital arms together from February 1.

Chapman said Jones was a strong internal candidate for the role with extensive knowledge of the bank and broad experience in technology and innovation.

"The addition of digital banking into Russell's technology portfolio has been a stand-out success.
