Construction of a new $1.2 million driving attraction at Rainbow's End Theme Park is well advanced.
Chris Deere, park chief executive, said the main framework was up for a new open-sided structure to house the new AA Drivers' Town attraction.
This will cover a 1200sq m area of two-way roads with roundabouts, traffic lights and signs for patrons of the Manukau business, he said.
"The framework for the roof is up and the attraction will open later this year," Deere said.
Roofing material will be applied in the next few days.
"A curved cover will form the roof but the outsides will be open because we're going to put themed buildings around the side to give kids the feeling they're driving around in a town. There will be a fire station and a police station, so it has an authentic town feeling," Deere said.
Twenty battery-powered cars are being imported from mini-car and go-kart manufacturing specialist Formula K International, based in Denbighshire, Wales. The ride is aimed at children aged under 13.
