The country's 10 priciest house sales of the year were all in Auckland and their collective worth tallies more than $100 million.
Data analysis company CoreLogic has released an exclusive breakdown to the Herald on Sunday of the most-expensive property sales for the year, providing an insight into the luxurioustastes of the country's most cashed-up buyers.
The multimillion-dollar properties are in Auckland City, the North Shore and Waiheke Island, and feature extravagant trappings reserved for the super rich.
A six-bedroom waterfront mansion in Herne Bay that sits on more than 4000sq m of land in the nation's most exclusive postcode, took out top spot after selling earlier this year for $24m - $8m over CV.
Although yet to settle, the blue-chip home, which features a separate guest apartment, helipad, beach access and home-movie theatre, was bought by property investor Ben Cook.
Second place went to a sprawling 1128sq m house - about five times the size of a standard Kiwi home - in Remuera's Victoria Ave.
Formerly owned by businessman Sir Doug Myers, the property comes complete with a 16m heated indoor swimming pool, flood-lit tennis court and 2000-bottle wine cellar. The six-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion sold in July for $13.99m.
A five-bedroom 2006 property with a floor area spanning 746sq m in Takapuna's Minnehaha Ave rounded out the top three, selling in January for $12.68m - nearly $4m over CV.
The 10 properties have a combined price tag of $105.8m, equivalent to that of 138 standard Auckland homes or 535 median-priced Southland residences.
Russell in the Bay of Islands recorded the most expensive property deal outside Auckland in the last year: a Paroa Bay Rd house fetched $5.875m in March.
